Short Film Score: Wirecutters
COMPOSING/MIXING
I re-scored this short in collaboration with a couple of other students during my time at the Australian Institute of Music. I wrote and produced the main theme that bookends the project as well as most of the music through the film. Experimenting with the boundaries between sound effects and music and creating an atmosphere that was hard to fully box into either category was my favourite part about working on this project.
Short Film Score: #mybridgertonscore
COMPOSING/MIXING
My entry piece for the Spitfire x Netflix Bridgerton scoring competition.
Short Film Score: Johnny Delivery
COMPOSING/MIXING
Another short I wrote and produced all of the music for as a collaborative project during my time at the Australian Institute of Music. (**Only the music, none of the foley/fx are mine.)
My favourite way to re-score films like this is to watch it silently and imagine the score in my head first, without any influences other than the visual elements of the film. I still to this day have not listened to the original score and I had a lot of fun playing with lots of different sounds and genres in this piece, accenting the funny moments to really bring the humour home.
Jack’s Banjo
COMPOSING/MIXING
The week before my grandfather’s passing, we went to visit him. He picked up his old banjo and played a traditional Chinese song that I remember him playing when I was a child. One of the last things that he told me was that when you feel sad, you can pick up an instrument and play, and you will feel better. The banjo you hear in this track is him playing from that day. I composed this piece in the few days before his funeral and it was part of the eulogy I gave.
For M&J
COMPOSING/MIXING
My brother got married in 2021, and I was unable to be present due to travel restrictions. I created this simple piece so that I could underscore my sister-in-law walking down the aisle even from afar. It incorporates motifs from their first dance song and is relatively un-structured so that the piece can flow well with any time-length.
Jealous - Labrinth Cover feat. Veera Varis
ARRANGING/COMPOSING/ENGINEERING/MIXING
This cover was recorded in my little home studio with Veera during the height of lockdown. Rental stores were closed, so I got creative with the couple of mics I own and the old well-loved ‘slightly’ out-of-tune upright piano that was gifted to me. I may or may not have used toilet paper rolls (arguably harder to find) because I didn’t own any mic stands at the time. #lockdownthings
GDN Podcast Jingle
COMPOSING
A short jingle I wrote in 2019 for the Canadian Global Dance Network podcast.
